Your Animal Emergency Hospital near Hampstead, MD

Hampstead is a large town found in Carroll County, Maryland. The town was born after Robert Owings was ordered to build a road in 1736. The road was to run from Conewago, Pennsylvania to Fort Garrison, Maryland. A small town called Spring Garden was built next to the new road and eventually was renamed as the town of Hampstead. The name came from the town of Hampstead in England because the first settlers in the area were English immigrants.

Hampstead was a large agricultural setting and farmers would use the location as a trading source between Pennsylvania and Baltimore. Eventually, the Western Maryland Railroad extended to Hampstead which enticed more people to relocate to the area where dairy farming had become more profitable. To this day, Hampstead is still a large agricultural region.

In 2002, the old Hampstead School was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was repurposed as a retirement facility.

Hampstead is a great location for all things outdoor and nature related. Happy On Hooves is a farm in Hampstead that offers trail rides that beginner and experienced riders can enjoy. They even offer a Christmas-time trail ride with Christmas lights hanging through the trees along the trail.

Cascade Lake is a great place for families to enjoy water on hot days. The facility has a large water playground including a pool with a slide. They also offer pavilions for picnicking and an arcade for the kids.

Pretty Boy Reservoir Park is another great location for those that enjoy hiking. It offers hiking trails ranging from easy to difficult, so it is a great option for those with children as well as serious hikers. It is also a great location for fishing because the reservoir contains largemouth and smallmouth bass along with crappie, sunfish, perch, and carp.
