WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required Qualifications:
DVM or equivalent degree that allows you to practice veterinary medicine in the US.
Active Pennsylvania Veterinary Board state license (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
Both new graduates and experiences veterinarians are encouraged to apply!
Ability to provide compassionate care to pets and their owners.
Love emergency medicine, but want a more personalized approach to the ER.

Veterinary Technician Shift Lead – Emergency Medicine

Mason Dixon Animal Emergency Hospital is seeking a highly skilled, compassionate, and driven Veterinary Technician Shift Lead to join our growing emergency team. This role is designed for experienced veterinary professionals who thrive in high-acuity environments and are ready to lead by example, elevate clinical standards, and mentor their peers in a fast-paced, collaborative ER setting.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Veterinary Technician Shift Lead, you’ll guide a team of technicians, coordinate patient care, and ensure smooth operations during your shift while maintaining a high standard of medical excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the technician team during scheduled shifts
- Manage patient triage, outpatient, critical care, analgesia and anesthesia, and care in partnership with ER veterinarians.
- Collaborate with the Emergency Technician Team Director, Training Director, and other shift leads to grow team communication and morale
- Offer mentorship, training, and real-time coaching to team members
- Support and participate in hospital leadership initiatives
- Foster a culture of accountability, empathy, and continual growth
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required Soft Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of veterinary technician experience (ER/ICU, anesthesia experience required)
- Proven leadership or mentorship experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong multitasking, organization, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to remain calm, composed, and solution-oriented in high-pressure situations
- Comfortable working overnights, weekends, and holidays
Clinical Skillset Desired:
- Triage and ambulatory care
- ICU/critical care patient assessment and management
- Sampling line placement, central line placement, NG tube placement, canine urinary catheters (female and male), chest tube management
- Ability to perform medical math including CRIs, fluid additives, and dosage calculations
- Rapid anesthetic induction, advanced anesthesia experience, and recovery
- CPR readiness and RECOVER knowledge/certification

Veterinary Technician – Emergency Medicine
Up to $19.55/hour

Mason Dixon Animal Emergency Hospital is currently seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic emergency team. This position is ideal for a technician who is ready to take on a fast-paced ER environment.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Depending on experience, technicians will take part in the daily execution of the following tasks, with opportunities to learn, grow, and take on new responsibilities as skills advance.
- Support emergency and critical care cases by assisting with triage, stabilization, and ongoing patient monitoring.
- Perform technical procedures including IV catheter placement, venipuncture, radiology, and laboratory diagnostics.
- Assist with anesthesia and surgical prep, monitoring, and recovery for emergency and scheduled procedures.
- Deliver compassionate nursing care to hospitalized patients, including those in ICU, post-op, or under isolation protocols.
- Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as prescribed, ensuring timely and accurate execution.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with both clients and team members, offering education and emotional support.
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical records in alignment with hospital protocols.
- Collaborate across departments to provide cohesive, team-based care for complex cases.
- Participate in emergency drills and continuing education, contributing to a culture of growth and preparedness.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked environment, ensuring equipment and treatment areas are always ready.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in veterinary medicine, preferably, but not required, in an emergency or critical care setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to stay calm and organized in high-pressure environments
- Experience with conflict resolution, delegation, and workflow management
- Availability for 12-hour shifts, including overnights, holidays, and 2 weekends per 5-week cycle
